This month we have the opportunity to sit down and meet first hand the new CO of the USS Sentinel, a recently commissioned ship here in IDF! How long have you been simming? This is my first attempt at simming, but I have been inventing and writing stories of this type for a long time.
Is IDF the only place you've simmed, or have you served on outside ships?
As this is my first assignment, it is the only place I've ever simmed.
How did you get started in simming, and where?
I was introduced to simming by a colleague of mine, who you know as Captain Jarvas, the acting CO of the USS Patriot; I was conducting research and found that she was equally enthusiastic about Star Trek, and she subsequently told me about her posting onboard the Patriot. I was immediately interested.
Your ship, the Sentinel, was recently admitted to IDF. What plans
do you have for this ship?
The idea for the Sentinel came about after I started an in-depth research project on the Nova-Class ( in which I am still involved). I became very interested in the design and realized that since I knew such a great deal about the class, it would be a natural choice for my command in IDF.
What hobbies do you have outside of simming?
Outside of simming, I love reading, computers, swimming, And hanging out with my friends (especially at Hopkins :-) ).
Favorite book?
Lord of the Rings.
Do you have any role models?
I always try to emulate the wisdom and actions of Atticus Finch.
I understand you are still recruiting a crew for your ship. What positions do you have open?
Currently, we are still in need of a Chief Engineer, Chief Science Officer, Marine Commander, and probably a Flight Control Officer and Chief Medical Officer. However, individuals who wish to apply for noncritical positions are still encouraged.
What do you feel your simm needs to make it successful?
What does every simm need to be successful? Motivated and creative people who love Star Trek and good writing. And maybe a little discipline too.
Who is your favorite Star Trek character?
A hard choice to make, but probably Captain Picard.
If you were given a limitless amount of money, how would you use it?
Well, I wouldn't use an unlimited amount of money, because I'd ruin the world economy. But if I just had a metric s**t ton of money, I'd probably use it enact social reform in this country.
Anything else you wish to add?
To everyone: Feel free to join us!!! Captain James Michael Ross CO, USS Sentinel
